Russula is pleased to announce it has been selected by Global Steel Wire, part of the Celsa Group, to upgrade the vertical coil transporter for the two strand wire rod mill.
Two existing ABB Veritron drives for the coil plate will be replaced with a newer generation. The Russula scope of supply includes PLC hardware, drives and engineering services including:
The hardware and operator stations were assembled in the Russula workshop during the summer of 2015. Throughout the manufacturing process, the equipment was subjected to rigorous testing to ensure the highest quality standards.
These tests greatly reduce the time of implementation in situ. Russula’s reputation for fast start-ups is largely due to the extensive testing conducted in the workshop. The commissioning is scheduled for January 2016.
We acquired our first customer in 1989 and we are still working with them today.

Located in Santander, Spain, the GSW mill was originally installed in 1961 to roll a 60 mm x 9 m long billet yielding a coil weight of 230 kg. Global Steel Wire was Russula’s first customer. In 1989, Russula supplied a new laying head and pinch roll drives and a new control system that incorporated a laying head front end orientation and wobble control; one of the first systems of that kind installed in Spain.
In 1996, Russula designed and supplied new coil handling equipment to GSW. Twenty years later, this is the same equipment undergoing an electrical upgrade.
After 26 years of cooperation between both companies during successive modernization projects, GSW has an annual production rate of 1 MT/yr.
