In 2007, the ArcelorMittal Acindar plant, located in Villa Constitución, Argentina, decided to install a new high efficiency mill designed to roll products ranging in size from 5 - 90 mm round bars, as well as squares, hexagonal, flats and rebar. Russula supplied the water treatment plant for the new mill, the first of its kind, specifically designed for steel production.
"If one of our engineers has a question, a Russula engineer will take the time to sit down, take out a piece of paper and explain the solution. The transfer of knowledge was very good."
Luis Gastaldi, ArcelorMittal Acindar
Russula was responsible for the complete mechanical and electrical supply and provided detailed civil designs for the installation. Russula also provided installation supervision, commissioning and training.
The water treatment plant featured Russula's unique technology combination of twin decanting basins, mechanical ring filters and modular cooling towers.
Due to the ArcelorMittal Acindar's site limitations for the water treatment installation, Russula designed a very compact water treatment plant occupying a total area of 3,550 m².
Proprietary water technologies that included ring filters, decanting basins, plate heat exchangers, a thickener tank, cooling towers, bridge scrapers, skimmers to remove oil and grease, filter press and metering pumps offered a comprehensive solution to recover and recycle the water.
In the span of less than one year, Russula delivered the water treatment equipment, pumps, piping and cooling towers to Acindar's long product mill in Villa Constitucion. During the course of the startup, specialists from Russula checked the quality of the installation for the water pipelines and commissioning all the equipment involved in the process.
ArcelorMittal Acindar and Russula have had a successful partnership dating back to 1995, when Russula upgraded the control system for their other two strand wire rod mill in Villa Constitución. Since 2002, Russula has completed numerous electrical projects for Acindar in San Nicolás, Fenicsa and Bonelli.
