Russula was honored to welcome distinguished visitors to its booth during the exhibition of ALACERO (Latin American Steel Association) in Rio de Janeiro last October 2016.
Steel manufacturing leaders and business partners stopped by to learn more about the company’s recent projects and innovations. The Russula management was happy to receive executives from the largest steel producers in Latin America, to highlight a few, Gerdau, Silat, Gusa Nordeste, ArcelorMittal, Compañía Siderúrgica de Huachipato, Aceros Arequipa, Ternium, ACESCO, Sidersa and ICDAS Steel.
During the ALACERO exhibition Russula showcased two substantial mechanical technology projects in Northern Brazil. The first was a complete energy efficient water treatment plant for the 420,000 tpy melt shop at Gusa Nordeste. The second was the supply of a 600,000 tpy high productivity, low conversion cost bar and wire rod mill for Silat. The wire rod outlet is scheduled to start up in the beginning of 2017.
Approximately 400 representatives from 29 countries around the world attended ALACERO this year. Over the last couple years the turnout has diminished, which is a reflection of the turbulent economic situation in Latin America and the world at large. However, the participants that attended were high level decision makers bringing merit to the quote,¨Quality is much better than quantity. One home run is worth more than two doubles.¨
China’s impact on the global steel industry, specifically its overcapacity and incompliance with international trade regulations, hung like a dark cloud over the conference proceedings that mirrored itself in the weather of Rio de Janeiro that week. The dark cloud brought wind and rain, pelting guests as they crossed the bridge to Club Costa Brava to attend the final dinner celebration. Large waves crashed against the rocks below. As quickly as it came, the storm passed. Steel is a cyclical industry. At some point the sun will shine again and the waters will be calm.
