In November of 2016, LAMINOIR DES LANDES (LDL) awarded Russula a contract to supply the electrical and automation equipment and a water treatment plant for its new heavy plate mill in Tarnos, France.
The project was developed in consortium with other suppliers where Russula held the role of consortium leader. Russula was responsible for the detailed engineering design of the project, procuring all the equipment and materials necessary, managing the installation, commissioning and final delivery of a functioning heavy plate mill to LDL. The mill has a nominal production rate of 500,000 tons per year and produce 8-150 mm heavy plate with a width up to 3,400 mm and length up to 24,000 mm.
In addition to operating as the consortium leader, Russula supplied the water treatment plant, electrical and automation equipment for the heavy plate mill. The project was divided into two delivery phases. Both phases involved the supply, installation supervision and commissioning of all its respective equipment according to the project schedule.
In a little over a year, Russula delivered the electrical, automation and water treatment supply. In March 2018, the 500,000 tpy heavy plate mill was completed and entered into production.
The factory site is located directly across the Bayonne harbor on the Bay of Biscay in Aquitaine, in the historic region of Gascony in Southwest France. LDL represents a new generation of steel-rerollers.
The mill produces a variety of heavy plates including normalized fine-grain steels, weather-resistant and tempered steel used in high strength construction such as wind farms, shipbuilding and pressure vessels. Currently the mill produces the following plate specifications.
LDL has plans to expand their product range over the coming years to include thermo-mechanically-controlled, rolled fine-grained steels, high tensile heat-treated fine-grained steels, and wear-resistant steels. (Source: http://www.lamdeslandes.fr/)
